FORMING GOOD STEWARDS
"Jesus again spoke to the chief priest and elders of the people in parables..."  Matthew 22:1-14 - Jesus told many parables.  They were stories, not necessarily based on fact, but that communicated an important truth.  Jesus used parables to get the attention of the people and to make them think.  Jesus even used parables to teach the truth to the "chief priest and elders of the people."  And apparently, they listened to him.  He tells them about a king who gave a wedding feast for his son.  The servants that were sent to the "invited guest" are mistreated and killed.  The king fills the feast with people ordinarily thought unworthy.  God invites us to a great feast - the wonderful world he has created for us.  Unfortunately we can create our own small world filled with our own self-centered interest and ignore the opportunity to share with others in God's world and the joy of growing in our relationship with God.  The chief priest understood that Jesus was challenging them to be better.  Do we understand he is challenging us as well?

You are cordially invited to attend a Mass of Thanksgiving in honor of the 40th anniversary of the Apostles of Jesus. The Mass will take place on Tuesday, October 28 at 7:00 pm at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Knoxville, and will be followed by a reception.  The Institute of the Apostles of Jesus was founded in 1968, in Moroto, Uganda by two Comboni Missionaries (Bishop Sixtus Mazzoldi and Fr. John Marengoni).  In particular, in the Diocese of Knoxville, we are blessed and grateful for the service of Father Augustine Idra, A.J. and Father William Oruko, A.J., who have been serving in our diocese for nearly five years.  Present for the October 28 Mass will be Apostles of Jesus serving in the six states, as well as their superior for the United States.  The priests will be in Knoxville the last week of October for a regional meeting, as our own Father Augustine is the regional superior for this part of the country. During their meeting they will focus on spiritual renewal and also discuss promoting missionary awareness, deepening their formation program and facilities, completion of the re-construction of their seminary in Sudan, and reaching out to more orphans through education and more.  Please mark your calendars and join the Mass and celebration. We look forward to seeing you!

RIGHT TO LIFE
Government has no authority to take away an innocent person's life.  Government exists, instead, to secure the rights of all the people.  Some claim they don't know when life begins.  So, if they are hunting and don't know whether it is a bear or a man hidden from view, may they shoot?  If not, then how do they justify abortion when they are not sure what it destroys?  (Father Frank Pavone)
