Knights of Columbus Youth Soccer Challenge Competition is for players aged 9 through 14 to demonstrate their skill at penalty kick. Each player is allowed 15 shots on goal from the penalty line. The goal is divided into a five scoring areas: the upper corners are worth 20 points, the lower corners are worth 10 points, and the central area of the goal is worth 5 points.
First and second place winners are recognized for (1) Boys ages 9, 10, and 11; (2) Girls ages 9, 10, and 11; (3) Boys ages 12, 13, and 14; and (4) Girls ages 12, 13, and 14.
Proof of age is required. The age of the player as of September 1, 2019, determines eligibility. So players must have been born between September 1, 2010, and August 31, 2004, to participate. Bring proof of age with you to the competition.
Players can register on the day of the competition. Registration requires (a) the player’s parent or guardian signs that he/she approves of participation under the terms and conditions of the competition, and (b) proof of age is provided.
Every player gets 3 practice kicks followed by 15 consecutive kicks from the 12-yard penalty line. Kicks must be done behind the penalty line; the player cannot step on or over the penalty line. Contact with the ball counts as a kick.
The Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge is sponsored annually, with winners progressing through our local (St John Neumann Council 8781), District, and State competitions. First place winners compete at the District level on October 20 at St. Mary’s Parish in Oak Ridge. If first place winners cannot attend a higher level competition, then second place winners will be given the opportunity to compete.
