FOOD DELIVERY MINISTRY – CAN YOU HELP FEED THE POOR?

FOOD DELIVERY MINISTRY – CAN YOU HELP FEED THE POOR? – For around 20 years, our parish Knights of Columbus Council has performed this ministry on behalf of our parish. Food perishables have been transported daily/weekly between grocers/restaurants and charities.  Typically, we move about 13,000 pounds of food monthly and as much as 168,000 pounds annually.  Pickups are done at Fresh Markets in Bearden and Farragut, Publix in University Commons and Farragut, Kroger Northshore, and Panera Bread.  Deliveries are made to the Jellinek Center, Ladies of Charity, FISH, Love Kitchen, Samaritan House, KARM, and weekly to Catholic Charities Crazy Quilt Friendship Center near Jellico.  We want to be ready to handle situations when our current drivers need to step aside in order: to serve the needs of their family, to address health issues, or to address work schedule.  Drivers need to have access to a large car, SUV, or truck.  The needs are of different types:

Immediate – a volunteer who serves as part of a substitute driver response group – a volunteer willing to drive on a day’s notice or less time.

Short-term – a volunteer who is responsible for a weekly route for an agreed number of times.  These can be either substitute or regular drivers.

Long term – a volunteer who commits to a longer-term engagement.

We have an immediate need for someone to pick up food from Panera Bread on Saturday nights at 8:00pm or we will lose this regular pickup.  If you want more information or to volunteer, then contact our Coordinators Michael Wilson,  mjwilsonknox@gmail.com, or Michael Muir, MCCMUIRRETIRED@GMAIL.COM.
